Salary RangeFrom $16.34 to $16.34 Hourly
Minimum Qualifications 30 semester college credit hours, including or supplemented by 12 semester credit hours in forestry, which must include at least one course in three or more of the following areas: pathology, entomology, forest biology, silvics, silviculture, forest mensuration, forest protection, forest soils, dendrology, botany or land surveying.
OR
One year of diversified, technical forestry experience in two or more of the following areas: forest management, including sale and removal of timber products, nursery management, including the transplanting of tree or shrub seedlings; forest pest management, including control of diseases and insect pests.
Duties Description Assist foresters in Regional offices with management of known infestations, including aerial and ground surveying, collecting data used to develop management plans, and interacting with contractors
Assist with development of survey and sampling protocols and data collection methods
Collect samples and assist other technicians with sample collection to verify potentially infected trees, and coordinate efforts with the Cornell Plant Disease Lab
Assist with outreach and education, including developing of outreach material, attending professional meetings and conferences, and talking to homeowners in impacted areas.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of common pests of oak and the difference between their signs and symptoms and those of oak wilt.
Strong attention to detail and strong organizational skill for managing large quantities of tree and site related data.
Well-developed communications skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with the other land managers and the public.
Knowledge of ESRI products such as ArcMap, Survey123, and Collector; and Microsoft products, especially Excel.
This position is funded through 3/31/19 with a possibility of continuing after that date. Actual work schedule and hours may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
