Duties Description Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Daily activity reviews for reinstatement
• Returned payment reviews
• Credit balance write off reviews
• Assist in corresponding with collection agencies regarding collection cases
• Monitoring the payment confirmation mailbox
• Maintain availability in the collections phone queue
• Other duties assigned as needed
Minimum Qualifications For Appointment to Insurance Fund Services Specialist Trainee 1 (SG-11):
• One year of experience either answering inquiries, providing relevant policy data, and communicating with policyholders, insurance brokers, attorneys, accountants, and collection agencies regarding the calculation and collection of premiums in an insurance industry setting; or researching Workers' Compensation insurance policy issues, working to resolve account issues, and processing the placement of policies into cancellation or reinstating policies where warranted; or providing support and working with Underwriters and Auditors in an insurance industry setting regarding the application of NYS Workers' Compensation Law to policies; OR
• An associate's degree or higher
For Appointment to Insurance Fund Services Specialist 1 (SG-14):
• One year of permanent, competitive class service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Eligible titles include, but aren’t limited to: Claims Services Representative Trainee 1, Policyholder Services Representative Tr 1; OR
• Three years of experience either answering inquiries, providing relevant policy data, and communicating with policyholders, insurance brokers, attorneys, accountants, and collection agencies regarding the calculation and collection of premiums in an insurance industry setting; or researching Workers' Compensation insurance policy issues, working to resolve account issues, and processing the placement of policies into cancellation or reinstating policies where warranted; or providing support and working with Underwriters and Auditors in an insurance industry setting regarding the application of NYS Workers' Compensation Law to policies; OR
• A bachelor’s degree or higher

Additional Comments For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.

NY HELPS Program:
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
